Forgoten Kwekwe ensemble Zigzag band has released a single entitled Gwenyambira, this publication can reveal.
The song which was produced by Hanniel Muzerengwa and is part of a six track album, Chigiyo Culture which is still work in progress.
Speaking to this publication Tawanda Jumo alias Bantuman I who is the Director and Executive Producer at Bantu Studios said that they had decided to release the single as a way of staying relevant.
“…the artist stays relevant than just drop once and the people listen and forget and the artist earn more often just once when the album is released,” he said.
The song that hit the airwaves on Thursday was composed by Steve Lion Lunga. The recording of the album started in April this year and was completed last month (August).
The launch of the single has set the stage for the full album launch whose date is indefinite at the moment.
“The album release will be gradual…we can’t promise the fans on timelines because we are yet to emerge from the difficult Covid-19 induced environment,” said Bantuman I.
Some of the tracks fans Will Look up to from the upcoming album include Gwenyambira, Arikuimba, Chinamazano, Chenai mwoyo, Sangwedza and Jongwe rechirungu.
The current Zigzag band which is now in its third generation includes Steve Lion Lunga (band leader, vocals and keyboardist), Julius Ziva (vocals, trumpet and guitarist), Sunduzwayo Nyirenda (voices and bassist), Jerald Chamunorwa (voices and drummer) and Ras Isaacs Iyahman Phiri (Percussionist and voices).
