Young artists should strive for originality, preparedness and meaningful compositions to safe guard the legacy of Zimbabwe’s Sungura music, it has been established.
In a interview with The Guiding Star Entertainment popular and talented Zvishavane based musician, Gift Amuli encouraged young Sungura artists to keep the genre’s tradition of originality, educative lyrics and preparedness before recording and releasing.
“Collaborating with young Sungura artists like Goda Moyo and Tawanda Tobaiwa was a great experience. I want to thank Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere and other partners for the sponsorship. To Goda, Tawanda and many such talented Artists I encourage them to stay original, educative and to take their time rehearsing,” said Amuli.
The Zvishavane sounds frontman also expressed optimism on the future of Sungura music.
“I feel great and hopeful. It’s phenomenal to see young people taking Sungura to another level. The future is very bright,” he said.
Goda Moyo who also spoke with this publication was impressed by the humility and effortless talent exhibited by Gift Amuli in recording the song ‘Love Life’.
“Gift Amuli is an amazing human being, so humble yet so talented. It was awesome working with him on the track love life. I learnt a lot from the legend,” said Moyo.
Love life is a song that talk of placing safety first to protect the sanctity of life. It is a perfect song for the moment as people are in jovial and celebratory festive mood.
