…a magic bullet header sealed the spot

Concession United Football Club, a local team playing in Division 2B of Mashonaland Central snatched a thrilling 2-0 victory over its rivals Zambezi Football Club at home ground in Concession Township on 23 October 2022.

Concession United FC finished the league with 50 points and was on top of the league to qualify for Division One.

In front of hundreds of fans, Concession United FC went hunting for an early first-half goal. Star left-back, Brendon Ngarande “Dembele” 38 minutes magic bullet header put the team in front. It was a brilliant corner kick from Obvious Vhiyazhero which Brendon utilized and produced a bullet header that left Zambezi FC with much homework at the break.

Masimba Lionel Musukutwa’s 91 minutes penalty sealed victory for the home team. The penalty was awarded after Brian Jere was fouled in the box. Another brilliant performance came from goal-stopper Takawira Karauro well known as “Batherz”, who kept a clean sheet for the team.

The final league match was described by the technical team as one of the toughest games played in Division 2B this season.

“Playing Zambezi FC at home was not easy because the team had good players and needed a win to seal a spot for Division One qualifications. The training sessions tactically helped us to win this rival game, on match day we focused much on holding positions, defending, attacking and it paid off well,” said Shame Makina the head coach.

Team manager, Knowledge Mandere weighed in by saying, “scouting of good players and registering them was done in time and on the standard. For instance, during the season three key players were signed to strengthen the striking force and midfielder, they include Speedster Terrence Kamwendo who is also versatile. The signing of midfielder Masimba Lionel Musukutwa “Figo” from Herentals stabilized the midfielder area.

Brendon Ngarande commenting on brilliant team performance, said, “since division 2 started it was our wish to finish on top of the league. As a left-back player, my major role was to defend tactically and to utilize wisely every opportunity and score.

Talent Kamangira, who represents the club in the Media department highlighted the importance of supporters during matches.

“Special thanks to the community for rallying behind the team in difficult circumstances. Supporters contribute money for transporting and feeding the team during its away games,” he said.

Lawrence Changa “Kabila”, the Secretary-General for the Supporters Association added, “we felt challenged with the way our team was performing so we sat down as supporters and came up with the idea of raising money for our club. The Concession community is giving monetary support and also rallying behind the boys in the field. It takes courage and determination to do it and I am happy with the response I received from the supporters l need to thank them.

Concession United FC will be hoping to play in Division 1 next season. The club is currently looking for well-wishers to support it as well as to have a sponsor for upcoming matches, especially with a focus on Division 1. Supporters are encouraged to continue supporting the team.
